Australian Futsal Association

ALL ABOUT ! Australian Futsal Association.

The Australian Futsal Association (AFA) was formed in 2010 and was born out of futsal organisations that had been operating across Australia since the early 1990s, when it was identified that there was a real need for a standalone national body for futsal.  A sporting body that is focused on the development of futsal across Australia, as a sport in its own right, as opposed to a form of training for other sports or a recreational activity.

With member clubs, futsal centres and affiliates in every state across Australia, and 60+ full-time staff (including those employed by affiliates), AFA is by far the largest futsal organisation in the country.

Programmes range from local club competitions for all ages from Cairns to Hobart and Brisbane to Perth, stretching to just about every corner of Australia.

AFA provides a complete player pathway, with progression from local competitions to State Titles and Leagues, followed by National Championships and finally the chance to represent Australia at international tours and tournaments.

The AFA Schools programme is a benchmark for school futsal across the globe, with approximately 2200 teams competing in local school competitions across Australia every year.

Like club futsal, there is a pathway, allowing both teams and individual players (ensuring talented players have the opportunity to advance, regardless of their school team’s ability) to progress. The ‘Australasian Champion of Champions’ gives schools the chance to battle it out and be crowned National Champions, whilst National School Championships gives players the opportunity to represent their region against other regions from across the country.  Players are selected from the National School Championships to represent Australia on international tours and at renowned international tournaments. The AFA Club programme is the leading club based competition with over 60,000 participants across Australia (including affiliates).

Players participate in weekly competitions and in various leagues and tournaments including State and Regional Titles.  The National Club Championships is the largest national tournament in Australia with more than 200 teams from all over Australia, played over 8 days, using 16 courts and over 4000 players and supporters. The National Club Championships gives players the opportunity to represent their region against other regions from across the country.  Players are selected from the National Club Championships to represent Australia at International Tours and Tournaments.

Player development is of paramount importance to AFA. Our flagship GOL Brasil programme offers academy teams, futsal schools, holiday camps & clinics and international tours. In addition to these opportunities for players, coach and referee education courses are provided across Australia under the GOL Brasil banner. GOL Brasil is the largest and fastest-growing futsal specific development program in Australia.

AFA prides itself in offering its players the chance to sample futsal around the globe, playing against and learning from the best. Our International Tours span across Asia, Europe, South and North America. On the competitive side, AFA is one of the founding members of the International Futsal Alliance (IFA). Through the IFA, AFA National Teams compete against other nations from around the world in the IFA World Cup, across both youth and open age groups. It also offers our club sides the chance to compete in a wide selection of high level prestigious international tournaments.
